Guinness World Record Update
Hello, My Friends -Five months after submitting documentation of my attempt to set a new world record for "Most Bullwhip Cracks in One Minute," the Guinness website is reporting:
The current record for "Most bull whip cracks in one minute" is:
The most bull whip cracks in one minute is 254 set by Robert Dante (USA) at Sunset Park, Minnesota, USA, on 12 October 2008.
The most bull whip cracks in one minute is 254 set by Robert Dante (USA) at Sunset Park, Minnesota, USA, on 12 October 2008.
I have not been contacted officially, yet, so I'll believe it completely when I see a certificate with these same facts, numbered, stamped and signed. That will be my confirmation.
This process took longer than usual because Guinness requested fresh witness statements to replace the ones offered by two of the witnesses who sounded similar (of course they sounded similar - they are married to each other). And the Guinness representative I was speaking to told me he needed a much slower video version of the attempt. The slowed down version I resubmitted was still too fast to get an accurate count, so I slowed the tape down even more and numbered each crack with an online counter. The one-minute run took a full 5 minutes in the slow version.
I will follow up with phone calls to Guinness over the next few days, but right now it sure looks like I'm finally getting the credit for something I did 5 months ago - just as I said I did.
I've been playing "Heil dir, Sonne! Heil dir, Licht!" from Act III of Wagner's "Siegfried" all evening.

Hey Robert, congrats on the long-awaited acknowledgement of the record! Funny they wanted a slower version of the video they already had. A Guinness official was present, correct? Aren't they responsible for any video that's being taken or no?

Thank you, Steve.
No, the individual has to provide video, newspaper clippings, affidavits, everything that documents a successful attempt. You can have a Guinness adjudicator present, but there is a fee for that. If you want to get your result in 3 days, there is a fee for that. And as a bullwhip artist, I have to fly economy, which usually takes a little more time.

I see, thanks for setting me straight. That's too bad, really, for the added fees. But I suppose that's the price you pay for setting records. Sorry for the bad pun. Still, glad to see they've acknowledge it. Now we'll look forward to seeing a photo of the certificate they'll issue you.

Robert, sorry, but I forgot to ask: did you use your Mike Murphy whip for this record also?
