Bullwhips in the Open Field Program Returns June 11
This free program runs through summer on Saturdays. Whip handlers who own their own whips are welcome to come out to enjoy the luxury of cracking whips under the blue sky with others who appreciate the art and sport of bullwhips. If you are inexperienced but curious, this is a great opportunity to learn fundamental whip cracking and safety protocols from experienced whip handlers. Sessions will be overseen by Robert Dante and Paul Cummings. A limited number of loaner whips and safety glasses will be available. Free instructional handouts also will be provided. Here is the 2011 schedule. (All these Saturday sessions are 1-3 pm.) Open Field is a 3-month experiment exploring the idea of a cultural commons that invites public participation in activities of collective creativity. Organized by the Education and Community Programs department and mnartists.org, Open Field is comprised of two artist residencies, 4 day-long family events, weekly community-led discussions and art making activities on Thursday nights and other special events. Also included is Open Lounge, a collectively envisioned, temporary built environment near the Bazinet Plaza. For more information on Walker Open Field program, go to
