A Few Haikus

This past memorial day, I spent some time at a retreat in Pennsylvania, giving classes and decompressing. It also afforded me the chance to have one of my rare face-to-face visits with my beloved brother. During the time, I could tell I was starting to relax, because I began composing a few poems. Here are five.

Memorial Day
Depthless night glitters with
strewn stars, fireflies --
my fingers glow

Drunk Again
Pollen-heavy bee
clambers over jungle gym
of grass

Nude Brook
Waterfall-smooth hair
flows over shoulders of stone,
laughing

Summer
Kids twine legs, thighs,
bellies smooth, eyes soft --
even the trees sigh

Clam House
Over coffee, clams,
we talk of Father,
shadows crawling
